How to Fix a Slow iPad

"My iPad Is Running Slow"
The iPad Task Bar

Is your iPad running slow? Does it seem to get bogged down after a few hours? This is not an uncommon problem, and it is usually caused by an errant application or an app that is running in the background and taking up too much memory or processing power. Luckily, this is also relatively easy to fix.
  1. The first thing to try is to purge your most recent apps from memory. The iPad multitasks by suspending applications that are no longer active, but allowing a portion of the application to keep running. In this way, Pandora can still send music to your speakers even after you've closed it. To close the application, we need to get to your task bar. You can do this by double clicking the home button at the bottom of your iPad. (It's the circular button you use to close iPad apps.) When you press it twice in quick succession, a task bar will come up showing your most recently used apps.
Simply touch an application and hold your finger down until the icons begin shimmering. Small red circles with a minus sign in the middle will appear on the top of the icons. (Your screen should look similar to the one above). At this point, you can simple touch the red circle to close an app.
Go ahead and close the first four or five apps and see if that helps. If it doesn't, try closing a few more, but if that doesn't work, proceed to step two.
  2. Sometimes closing down apps simply won't do the trick. In this case, rebooting the iPad is the best recourse. To reboot the iPad, hold down the sleep/wake button button until instructions appear telling you to slide a button to power off the iPad. After the iPad's screen goes completely dark, it is powered down and you can start it back up again by holding down the sleep/wake button again. Your iPad should boot up shortly and be responding much better. If you continually find that your iPad slows down after use, try to keep in mind the apps that are running at the time. Sometimes, a single app can cause the iPad to begin performing poorly.
  3. If you are running desperately low on storage space, clearing up a little extra elbow room for the iPad can sometimes improve performance. This can be accomplished by deleting apps that you no longer use, especially games that you don't play anymore. You can also speed up Safari by deleting your cookies and web history, though this will cause you to log back into any websites that have saved your login information. How to Clear Cookies and Web History in the iPad's Safari Browser.

A decade ago wireless networks were the providence of coffee shops and businesses, but with the emergence of broadband technology, wireless has invaded our homes. It's a great convenience that frees us from the chains of our ethernet cables when it works, and when it doesn't, it can be one more headache for us to deal with. Luckily, there are a few different ways to boost a weak Wi-Fi signal.
Before we start tinkering with the router trying to troubleshoot the Wi-Fi network, it is important to make sure the problem isn't with the iPad or laptop connecting to the network. The best way to find out where the problem exists is to connect to the wireless network from two different devices from the same spot in your house. So, if you have a laptop and an iPad, try connecting both from the same spot. If you only have problems with you iPad, you are better off troubleshooting Wi-Fi problems specific to that device. If both devices run slow, the problem is with the network.
Troubleshoot the Wi-Fi Connection on Your iPad
Step One: Move Closer to the Router
The first thing we want to do is to move closer to the router and see if the signal strength improves. It's important to actually test the connection rather than relying on what your device is telling you about the signal strength. Also, make sure you test the connection against a well-known website that is unlikely to be running into problems of its own.
Google Images makes a great test. The images will provide enough bandwidth to properly test the connection and Google is less likely to be experiencing problems than other websites. You can run a search for "apple" to get a bunch of images on the screen.
Did your connection problems clear up when you got closer to the router? A wireless connection can degrade if it must travel too far or if it has walls or other obstructions in the way. Sometimes, you must simply get closer to it, but there are a few ways to boost the Wi-Fi signal strength.
Still having problems? You may end up needing a new router, but before you run out to Best Buy, there are a few things we can check on the page on troubleshooting your Wi-Fi signal.

Troubleshooting a Weak Wi-Fi Signal

Now that we've verified that it is the Wi-Fi signal giving us the problem rather than an issue with where the router is positioned, we can start looking into a few different ways to improve the signal strength. Unfortunately, some of these steps can require a certain bit of technological savvy as you navigate the settings on the router. Remember to only go as far as you are comfortable when following these steps.
  • Reboot the iPad and the Router
The first step to troubleshooting is always to reboot the devices. This will solve more problems than any other step to try, so first off, let's power down the iPad and any other devices we are connecting to the network. While they are powered down, let's reboot the router. Leave the router off for a few seconds before powering it back on and wait until all of the lights come back on before powering up the iPad and other devices.
How to Reboot the iPad
If we are lucky, this will fix the problem and we won't have to proceed to the next steps.
  • Remove other wireless technology
If you have a wireless phone or any other wireless technology near the router, try moving it somewhere else. Wireless phones can sometimes use the same frequency as a wireless router, which can cause the signal strength to degrade as it weeds out the interference. This can also be true of other wireless devices like baby monitors, so make sure the area around the router is clear of these devices.
  • Update the Firmware of the Router
Just as it is important to keep your iPad's software up to date, it can be important to keep your router's firmware updated. The firmware is what runs the router, and as we add newer devices (like the iPad), older firmware can run into problems.
You'll need to log in to your router to update the firmware. You can log into the router from a web browser on your PC or your iPad, but you need to know the right address, the username and the password. These might be located in the manual or on a sticker on the router itself.
The standard address for logging into a router is http://192.168.0.1, but some routers use http://192.168.1.1 and a few use http://192.168.2.1.
If you don't know the username and password, try "admin" as a username and "admin" or "password" as the password. You can even try leaving the password blank. If those don't work, you will need to find the correct username/password combo or refer to your particular brand of router on how to do a hard reset (if possible).
You can usually find the option to update the firmware under advanced options.
  • Change Your Wi-Fi Broadcast Channel
This step will also require logging into your router. In your wireless settings, you should be able to find an option to change the channel of the frequency band. This is often set to '6' or 'automatic'. The best channels are 1, 6 and 11.
If your neighbors have Wi-Fi broadcasting on the same channel as you, there might be some interference. Try changing this from automatic to a hardcoded channel, starting with 1 and moving to 6 and 11. You can try other channels as well, but you may see even worst performance if the channel isn't one of the three mentioned here.
  • Buy an External Antenna
If you are still having problems with multiple devices, you may have a hardware problem. But before you go out and replace your router, you can try buying an external antenna. Make sure that your router supports connecting an external antenna before you run down to Best Buy.
There are two types of Wi-Fi antenna: omnidirectional and high gain. A high gain antenna broadcasts the signal in only a single direction, but the signal itself is much stronger. This is great if your router is on one side of the house, but if your router is in the middle of your house, you'll probably want an omnidirectional antenna.
Also, make sure you buy the antenna from a store that allows returns for any reason. We're basically troubleshooting the router's antenna, and if the problem is with the router itself, hooking up an external antenna won't fix the problem
  • Buy a New Router
If your router came from your broadband company, you should be able to call them up and get it replaced for free. They may take you through some of the same troubleshooting steps you have already gone through here, and because they know the specific hardware you are using, they may have a few new steps that could work.
If your router didn't come from your broadband company and you don't know much about wireless routers, it is best to go with a well-known brand name like Linksys (Compare Prices, Apple (Compare Prices), Netgear (Compare Prices) or Belkin (Compare Prices).

How to Reset the iPad to Factory Default
How to Wipe the iPad

If you are planning on selling your iPad, or even giving it to a family member, you will want to reset the iPad to the factory default settings. This will wipe your iPad, erasing the settings and data, and returning it to the exact state as when you first opened the box.
By wiping the iPad, you allow it to be set up properly by the new owner. You also protect yourself and your personal information by making sure all of the settings and data are erased from the iPad.
The first step to reset your iPad is to go into the iPad's settings. This is the icon that looks like gears. On the left-hand side of the settings, choose the General settings and scroll down the page until you see "Reset". This is the last option in the general settings.
How to Erase the Content and Settings on Your iPad
Erase Content and Settings on iPad

Now that you are in the Reset settings, you can choose from several different options.
If you are giving your iPad to a family member who is going to use the same iTunes account, you might want to choose the first option: Reset All Settings. This will leave the data (music, movies, contacts, etc.) but reset the preferences.
But most people will want to choose Erase All Content and Settings. This protects you by making sure all data is off the iPad, which includes information for your iTunes account. If you are selling the iPad on craigslist, eBay, or to a friend or family member who will be using a different iTunes account, choose to erase all content and settings.

Erase the Data on Your iPad
Erasing the Data on Your iPad

Once you have chosen to erase the content and settings from your iPad, you will need to confirm your selection twice. Because this will set your iPad back to the factory default, Apple wants to double check your choice.
After confirming your choice, the process of erasing the data on your iPad begins. The entire process takes a couple of minutes, and during the process, the Apple logo will appear in the middle of the screen. Once it is done, a graphic asking to be plugged into iTunes will appear.
At this point, the data on the iPad is erased and the iPad is at the factory default. At this point, you are ready to transfer it to a new owner.

How to Turn On Parental Controls for the iPad

How to Enable iPad Parental Controls

How to Turn On Parental Controls for the iPad
Turn On iPad Parental Controls

The iPad's parental controls allow you to restrict how your child uses the iPad, from disabling the Safari browser to limit which websites your child can view to putting an age restriction on the apps downloaded. You can even turn off app downloads completely, which allows you to closely monitor what your child is doing on the iPad.
The iPad parental control work by setting a four digit passcode on the iPad that is required when setting the different restrictions. Once enabled, you can set restrictions for apps, television, music and movies.
How to Turn On Parental Controls for the iPad
The first step is going into the iPad settings by touching the settings icon. It looks like a bunch of gears and is one of the default icons for the iPad.
Once in settings, choose the general settings from the left-hand menu. You should reach a screen like the one shown above.
Next, choose Restrictions to go into the iPad settings for parental control.
Turn On iPad Restrictions

The next step for enabling parental controls on the iPad is to turn on the iPad restrictions. Simply touch the top of the screen where it reads Enable Restrictions.
You will be prompted for a four digit passcode. Choose something you will remember, but not something your child can guess like a birthday or the last digits of a driver's license. If there is a significant date your like to remember in your past besides birthdays and anniversaries, that would be perfect.
The passcode for the iPad's restrictions will need to be entered twice to make sure you don't accidentally tap a different number than intended.

The iPad Parental Control Settings Explained

Once you have the iPad's parental controls enabled, you will be able to set different restrictions and even restrict some of the default applications that came with the iPad. This includes the Safari browser, YouTube and iTunes, so you can restrict your child's ability to view websites, watch videos and purchase music from their iPad.
You can also turn off the ability to install apps. You can still get apps on the iPad by installing them to iTunes and syncing them to the iPad, which will allow you to have complete control over which apps are on the iPad.
If you don't need that much control, you can set a ratings restriction for what type of apps can be installed on the iPad. (Find out more about the different iPad app ratings.)
Another good thing to turn off is in-app purchases. Many free apps allow in-app purchases, which is how they make their money. This type of monetization can be seen in apps like Pocket Legends, which is a great iPad app, but parents must be aware that it allows for the purchase of in-game money.

How to Delete iPad Apps
How to Delete an iPad App

You can delete an iPad app similar to how you would move the icon for an iPad app. First, tap and hold the icon until all of the icons on the screen are jiggling. This is the "move state" from the Moving Apps tutorial. When in this state, some of the icons will have a black circle at the top with an "x" in the middle.
Simply tap the "x" button to delete an app. Don't worry about accidentally deleting an app. The iPad will confirm your choice before the app is actually deleted.
What about apps that do not have an "x" button?
You are not allowed to delete the default applications that came installed on your iPad. These include the Calender, Contacts, iTunes, App Store, Game Center, etc. You can delete the icons for these applications by enabling parental controls on your iPad. Find out how to enable parental controls.

How to Fix: My iPad is Frozen

How to Fix: My iPad is Frozen

My iPad is Stuck

By , About.com Guide

One of the most frustrating problems to have with an iPad is when it becomes frozen, especially when the iPad freezes on a regular basis. Luckily, this is usually an easy fix. When an iPad becomes stuck or frozen, it tends to be an issue with multiple apps conflicting with each other or an app leaving behind a bit of corrupted memory.
1. Reboot the iPad
A simple reboot of the iPad is usually enough to cure the problem. This is a great way to flush the memory the iPad uses for active applications and an excellent way to shut down and apps that are causing problems. Don't worry, all of your data is save. To reboot the iPad, simply hold down the Sleep/Wake button at the top of the iPad and the round Home button at the bottom.
After you hold both down for a few seconds, the iPad will automatically power down. When the screen has gone dark for several seconds, power it back up by holding down the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds. An Apple logo will appear as it boots back up.
Want a diagram to help power down the iPad? Refer to the Reboot iPad guide.
2. Delete the offending app
Does a single app cause your iPad to freeze? If you have rebooted the iPad and still have the problem when launching the app or when the app is running, it might be best to reinstall the app.
Delete the app by pressing your finger on the icon and holding it until an X appears in the top right-hand corner of the app. Touching this X button will delete the app. How to delete iPad apps.
Once it is deleted, you can easily install the app again by heading to the app store. The app store has a tab called "purchased" that will bring up all of your previously-downloaded apps.
Note: All data stored within an app will be deleted when the app is deleted. If you store important information within the app, remember to do a backup of it.
3. Restore your iPad to Factory Default
If you are still having problems with frequent freezes, it might be best to restore your iPad to factory default settings and then restore your apps from a backup by syncing with iTunes. This will cause the iPad to completely flush all available memory and storage and start fresh.
You can restore to Factory Default by going into iTunes, choosing your iPad from the devices list and clicking the Restore button. It will prompt you to backup your iPad, which you should (of course!) agree to do before restoring the iPad. Need help? Follow these instructions for restoring to the Factory Default setting.
This should clear up any software or operating system problems. If your iPad continues to lock up or freeze after restoring the Factory Default settings, you may want to contact Apple support or take the iPad into an Apple store.

I. Roadwin R 125/250

II. Roadwin 125

III. Shineray Chief 250
.
